Hellafactz selected 1 of 5 for who's got next at 2009 DJ STYLUS AWARDS
Hey wussup yall? o.k so I'm back from Toronto and been in the studio finishing up the album all week but I wanted to come and make this post to say a few things about the 2009 DJ Stylus Awards. First off I'd like to thank Hiphop Canada for making it all happen and recognizing some of the best talent in the country from all over. Second I wanna thank my fans and everybody who voted for my song " Here We Go Again " to make it to the top 5, and also to get on the " who got next compilation cd ". Next I wanna Bigg up my manager C-Dub who rolled with me out to T dot for the trip. And finally I wanna say " what a dope experience!!! "
I had a great trip and met lots of people. Everything didn't go as planned, ( like they ever do ) so when I got out there I flipped the script and just got my poly on like SUPER HARD. It was like a blessing in disguise because I had perhaps forgotten how networking is. Its part of the game I had been slacking on. My trip was short but breifly Imma give yall a lil break down... Saturday I got there and there was a BBQ and a few competitions. Thats when I found out I would not be performing so I went into SUPER NETWORK MODE. I was madd hungry for the mic but ws not getting it so luckily I had brought 500 business cards with me, plus 200 cd's and like 50 t shirts. I decided I was gonna make everyone in that event know me even though I wasn't getting to perform. Within minutes of arriving and getting this bad news, by the time I grabbed a beer and got situated the DJ was playing my song and I saw headz bobbing and instantly my energy level shot threw the roof. As I was bobbing my head and just mouthing the words, Click, the organizer I had spoken with about a week prior to making the trip comes over and says to me " you must be Hellafactz " and so I wondered how he knew and he tells me that im rapping along with myself and that it would be highly unlikely for anyone else to know every word, and we both just laughed. I tried to convince dude to let me on stage but he wasn't hearing me either but had a positive vibe and assured me that he would introduce me to some important people along with the other staff he had working the event and he wasn't lying. i gave him a t shirt and within minutes he brought over a couple really nice young ladys that also were working the event and introduced us. They informed me that if i didn't mind they would be grabbing me and introducing me to various industry reps throughout the day ad advised me to have a card or something ready at all times if i had material, which i did. Before long the DJ's switched off and the next DJ played my song as well and then I just lost any feeling of being shy and just started to walk up to anybody and give them my card and let them know who i was. Then the girls started bringing me over to meet people and everything started to fall into place. Before the day was over I had met DJ's like startin from scratch, dj dax, dj budda blaze, dj t-bone and many more of the country's best dj's. Also I linked up with some dope emceez like Bad News Brown, Solar C, Roti, my dude from Navy Seals, and more. And mainly just met alot of cool people like Musashi, Zip Lok, Trisha Trotter, Steve Walsh, Cousin Jody, Gavin Sheppard, Sasha Stoltz, Preeti Torul, Coach, Nader, and soo many more. Like I even met the new owners of Death Row Records ( shoutout to Maurice ) so yeah I that hadda be the best BBQ I was ever at and I never even made it to the grill to try out a hamburger.lol I decided not to party that night and get some rest for the next day which I knew would be long and plus I drank a lot more than expected at the BBQ so I was ready for sleep. The next day was the award show and the after party and yo i tell u for a minute i felt like i was back in L.A or something yo... The red carpet was out and the people were lookin fly. I stuck with my SUPER HARD POLY APPROACH and decided to just hit up as many people as i could again...I never even actually made it in the awards for more than 5 minutes because there was soo much going on outside the awards as far as interviews, pictures, and that's where the beers were at... The lady at the bar had the most friendly smile for me everytime i gotta beer after i explained to her i'm from nova scotia after she looked at me funny after drinking 4 beer within prolly 25 minutes of my arrival.lol Anyways to say the least Im still waiting for someone to post the awards online because i never really saw them, but heres what i did see: Bad News Brown rip up a Kayne West track on his harmonica in the middle some where towards the beginning and that was dope!!!!!!!I also know that DJ IV and PLAEBOI won an awards reppin Scotia so bigg up to them. and i know that i didn't win the who's got next award which didn't bother me at all, actually Jhevon Paris won the who's got next award so congrats to him... At the awards though I had the pleasure of meeting solitare which was bigg in my books becuz i respect dude. I also linked up wit my homey Damien from Diamond records, so shoutout to him. I actually roled to the after party with him and we ben talkin since about getting my vocals on sum bigg riddimz coming out of Jamaica this summer so im real excited about that becuz I LOOOOVE JAMAICA! The after party was dope too. I didnt stay long but while i was there i enjoyed it! after not getting on the mic the whole weekend I finally got my chance at the after party and it was more meant to be for my next homey Kalib Simmons to kill it.lol. Ya see for those who know Kalib he's a beast. We linked up at the after party and when the DJ's sarrato crshed they was passin the mic around so me, kalib and his homey approached the stage. by the time we got to the front the dj just got his sound back but there was time for one more verse and so it was only right for kalib to touch it and he repped scotia well...he came wit sum beat box mixed wit accapella vibes that tore the house down...he shouted out scotia on the mic and that was all dat needed to be done...Nova Scotia was in the buildin and everybody knew it...there was only 4 of us but we made our prsent felt..BIGG SHOUT OUT TO PUDDY THE MAYOR WHO WAS THERE SHOWIN LUV TOO.... This has ben 1 of the longest blogs i eva wrote but this was 1 of my best experiences so i wanted to share wit yall...hope u enjoyed reading...GET YOUR COPY OF HELLAFACTZ- HARD 2B HUMBLE, the album, June.20 wonlove Hellafactz wins best up and coming artsist...ANSMA AWARDS ( jan.10th/2008 )
wow what a nite...As a member of ANSMA, I wanna say thank you to all of the people that came out and supported the event..The turn out was good and people came in good spirits and that made the show amazing! Also bigg shout out to Lou cuz he's the man, and the whole ANSMA organization as well. I feel like its setting a real good example the way the organization operates as a team, because especially as black men, ain't too many of us organizing enough things now days, but if you were there last night, then u felt the power of what can happen when we as a people put our heads together to a common goal. Last nite I had a few members of the board tell me in conversation that their goal as a team was to get the faces of talent from nova scotia recognized and to make us know that there is a future out there for us so we dont give up. I just wanna confirm with the board that today yall got me feelin about a trillion miles from ever stoppin. I'm feelin real good right now and most definitely was not really expecting to win an award last nite...I will say that I did work really hard this year and it felt amazing to be rewarded...Also I wanna bigg up all the other members of ANSMA that were in the building last nite. It was good to kick it with yall. Shout out to Young Son, Nixx, Blinkamillion&The dynasty, Real eyes, Cindy Cain, Asia & Nu groove, Suzy Gangoo , Edo King, Nadira & all da artists really, NUTTIN BUT LUV! It was an honour to meet some of the cats that did it bigg before me like Dutch Robinson, and a privilige for me to meet lot of talented musicians & engineers like Bruce Burton. Bigg up Ross Anderson because he's just all dat!
I really dont know what else to say right now except thank u, thank u, thank u....I feel truly blessed, and am really looking forward to a HUGE 2009. To all those who ben supporting me over the years and presently, I would especially like to say thank u to yall. For real because mostly u kept me going.
